Pensacola, Florida; For the 9th year, The Fish House Restaurant, part of the Great Southern Restaurant Group, is again honored to have been invited by Congressman Jeff Miller and his wife, Vicki, to participate in the prestigious Taste of the South (TOTS) gala in Washington, D.C. The event raises money and awareness for deserving charities throughout the South.
"We are honored to be chosen to represent Florida at this Congressional fundraiser," said Collier Merrill, co-owner of the Great Southern Restaurant Group.
The Fish House will present its signature dish, Grits à Ya Ya - spiced Gulf jumbo shrimp atop a sauté of spinach, portobello mushrooms, applewood-smoked bacon, garlic, shallots, and cream over a heaping bed of smoked Gouda cheese grits.
Taste of the South was launched in 1982 as a way to bring "Southern hospitality" to Washington, D.C., and to raise money for needy charities.
This year's selected charity is Children's Safety Center (CSC), located in Springdale, Arkansas. Children's Safety Center is a private, nonprofit organization that serves as an advocacy center for abused children in Northwest Arkansas. As a child-friendly, family-centered facility, the Children's Safety Center offers a one-stop setting to coordinate investigation, prosecution and treatment services for alleged child victims of sexual and physical abuse.
Taste of the South is privileged to have an Honorary Congressional Host Committee consisting of the members of Congress from Southern states. The 13 states that comprise the committee are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Each state sponsors a table featuring regional food specialties.
The Fish House offers upscale dockside dining overlooking beautiful Pensacola Bay and Seville Harbor. Just steps away from historic Seville Square, the award-winning restaurant features an inventive menu of fresh, daily seafood selections, house-smoked steaks, sushi, a handpicked wine list with over 300 wines, a full bar, late night menu, and brunch on Sundays.
